Three Small Initiatives That Transformed a School in Montenegro

Not every change begins with a large-scale project. Sometimes, all it takes is creating a space where people feel welcome, heard, and inspired to make a difference together. This is exactly what students from Bijelo Polje achieved after completing the SOEN4 Youth Academy, by designing and delivering three of their own Zero Budget Events.

The first initiative, Pyjama Party, was an informal gathering that combined a movie screening with classic social games. In a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, students had the opportunity to get to know each other better, build new friendships, and experience school as a place of belonging and connection.

The second activity, Digital Literacy Workshop, focused on digital ethics, online safety, and responsible behaviour in the digital world. Through interactive discussions and group work, participants explored how to create a safer, more respectful, and more inclusive online environment for young people.

The third initiative, Wall of Positivity, invited students to write messages of encouragement and support for children with developmental disabilities. Together, they created a symbolic wall that became a powerful expression of empathy, solidarity, and mutual respect.

These three Zero Budget Events demonstrated that meaningful community change does not depend on financial resources. Sometimes, all it takes is a good idea, a willingness to work together, and young people who care about making a positive difference in the lives of others.
